Norway's Mayflower: the sailing of the Restauration
Sunday October 8th at 1pm
Join us at Leif Erikson Hall on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 1PM for presentations by the Lori Ann Reinhall, Editor-in-Chief of the Norwegian American newspaper, and Gordon Strand from the Friends of Bergen Place in Ballard. Lori Ann will talk about the beginnings of the Norwegian emigration, her visit to the replica of the original ship, and the plans to celebrate 200 years of the emigration from Norway to the United States in the year 2025. Also learn about its relationship with the celebration of Leif Erikson's discovery of Vinland around 1000AD and how Bergen Place serves as a reminder of the relationship between Seattle and its sister city, Bergen. Its dedication in 1975 was the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Restauration. 2025 is the Bicentennial of the arrival of the Restauration, the first organized emigration ship crossing from Stavanger, Norway, to New York! Entertainment includes sea shanties from around the 1800s and more, delicious Norwegian open faced sandwiches and special refreshments--all for just $10. Hope to see you there!

LEL Member's Dinner and Meeting
Wednesday October 11th
SOCIAL 5:30, DINNER 6:00, PROGRAM 6:45
We are going south of Norway for an exciting performance of dances from Croatia, Bulgaria and Hungary. Radost means “Joy” in all the Slavic languages. The dance group has been performing throughout the NW since 1976 and many of their shows have been sold out. The Radost Folk Ensemble brings color, energy and ethnic culture in their performances. Don’t miss their program which is filled with vitality and joy. There even may be an opportunity for the lodge members to do a couple of easy Balkan line dances. In keeping with the Balkan theme, Malin will be serving stuffed bell peppers, along with a fresh salad with herbs and berries, bread, butter and baked apples with almond paste and whipped cream, coffee and tea all for $22.00. Let Malin know if you want a vegetarian main course.
The program and dinner will give you “radost” or joy and that is a very good thing! Please make your reservations by Monday, October 9 so we know how much food to prepare. Call the lodge, (206) 783-1274, sign up on the bulletin board or online.
